March Newsletter

Business Meeting

Apologies expressed to the members for the minutes not being posted on the website. Members reported that they did receive the newsletter via email and they were approved as correct.

Treasurer’s report: $16,195.73

OLD BUSINESS

Bylaws – Copies to those present. Teresa Martin, our bylaws committee chairperson has revised these. Motion approved to accept the changes

Donation in honor of Paige Odum – In lieu of money directly to family as recommended last month, the membership decided to give a $100 donation in her honor to the Smith County Community Center.

Medicare Part D sign-up for the community will be cancelled due to lack of volunteers for the event.

NEW BUSINESS

Announcement about resignation of TNA Executive Director Deanna Menesses effective at the end of 3 months. She will be returning to Louisiana.

Discussion/announcement regarding Rosalind Kurita RN running for Senate seat. www.kurita.2006l.com and Peggy Barnett, FNP, from Gatlinburg, running for 1st congressional district House of Representatives seat vacated by Bill Jenkins. www.electbarnett.com Do not think it appropriate to officially endorse from NETNPA but would encourage all to visit the website and support her as desired. It was suggested that NETNPA have an open forum meeting and invite the candidates, allowing them to share their positions on healthcare issues and giving NPs the opportunity to educate regarding our professional issues and concerns. Executive committee will organize.

Food tax – The membership voted to add our organizational name to the list of organizations supporting this bill. More info at http://www.yourtax.org/foodtaxswap/endorsingorgs.php3 Handouts highlighting the salient talking points were given to the attendees regarding the food tax/cigarette tax swap.

Practice Doctorate – Continue to be alert for information regarding this issue

The Lance Armstrong Foundation has pledged $1 million over 5 years to support Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Cancer Survivorship Program. The money will be used to recruit and train nurse practitioners for survivorship clinics. Kathy Sharp recommended that each member send an email to the Foundation thanking them for their support and use of Nurse Practitioners.
